Head of a young man

Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek

Summary

The head is made of white marble. The nose is missing, and the lips and eyelids are chipped. Traces of the original paint can be seen in the eyes.

In 1962 the head was cleaned and the cast plaster nose and lips removed

Description of object

The face is triangular, the lower part narrow. The short, finely-modelled, curly hair is combed down from the crown of the head, after which it is passed under a fillet encircling the head. The area where the shoulder begins is preserved on the right side, and the head is actually turned in this direction.

The neck terminates in a flat surface with the edge more coarsely worked for insertion in a statue.
