The foot of Dea Roma.

Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek

Summary

What is displayed here is a right foot, with the toes curled up. Due to its size, it is confirmed that the segment here was part of a colossal statue representing Dea Roma, alongside IN 568 (the head from the statue.)

Description of object

Right foot with the toes curling up. The ball of the foot is an area of coarser workmanship, suggesting that the whole foot was supported at this point. The findspot, technique, and format correspond to those of IN 586, and that the foot may links in to the head also found in a similar sight.

This foot is well-preserved with a deep, rectangular mortise in the surface of the ankle to attach it to the lower edge of a garment. there is one particular damaged area on the inner left side of the ankle. A puntello links the big toe to its neighbour.
