Head of the Orator, Demosthenes.

Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek

Resumé

The head is made of white marble, with a grey-brown patina. A piece of the nose has been broken off and is missing. The crown and the rear-most section of the head have been hewn.

In his catalogue from 1951 Frederik Poulsen noted that red colour in the hair was visible to the naked eye.

Genstandsbeskrivelse

Copy of the head of the statue of Demosthenes. In all likelihood, this head was originally part of a double herm.
