Tomb lekythos

Resumé

The lekythos is made of white marble. The neck is broken and the foot is new. Traces of the original painted floral motifs on the shoulder and a meander below the relief are still visible to the naked eye. The original colour pigments have protected the surface and left it bleached against the rest of the exposed surface which has become weathered.

Genstandsbeskrivelse

The relief background is below the level of the main surface. In the middle is a standing woman dressed in a chiton and a large cloak around her shoulders, the edge of which she holds with her left hand. Her hair is covered with a kerchief (sakkos). She faces left and is shaking the hand of an elderly, bearded man who rested his hands on what was originally a stick, executed in paint only.
