Head of a man

Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek

Resumé

The head is made of limestone. The tip of the nose is missing, the surface is meathered and it has a deep cut over left side of the face and hat. Traces of red paint can be seen with the naked eye on the hat and little on the lips.

Genstandsbeskrivelse

The face is triangular, the eyes large and almond-shaped, the nose long and the mouth slightly smiling. The ears are large and summarily rendered. He wears a conical hat. Traces from original red colouring can be seen on the hat and lips indicating a perhaps polychrome surface painting. The head belonged to a statuette representing a man carrying an offering (there are parallels at Golgoi).
