Head of a woman

Resumé

The head is made of limestone. The tip of the nose is missing, and the surface is weathered. Traces of red paint can be seen woth the naked eye on the neck, lips and head-dress.

Genstandsbeskrivelse

The head has an oval face with summarily plain features. She wears a tight, straight head-dress of the Egyptian type, ear-rings and necklace. The head probably belonged to a statuette representing a worsjipper or priestess. The statuette was a dedication to a goddess in a sanctuary, the location of which we do not know. Similar figures have been found in Cyprus and on Samos, where a Cypriote sanctuary was located.
