Head of woman

Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek

Resumé

The head is made of limestone. The nose is missing and the surface is weathered. Traces of red colour can be seen with the naked eye on the head-dress.

Genstandsbeskrivelse

The narrow face is dominated by almond-shaped eyes, a long nose and a small mouth with a very vague smile. The ears, adorned with several rings, are partly covered by a tight, almost straight head-dress in the Egyptian style. On the left side of the neck there are traces of a necklace. The head probably belonged to either a statuette representing either a goddess’ worshipper or a priestess.
